Steam was initially a client and storefront exclusively for Valve games, at least until 2005 when other publishers began listing their games on the service. Steam has been around since 2003 and was created by Valve, who also happens to be a well-respected game developer with some memorable and iconic franchises under its belt such as Portal, Half Life, Counter Strike, and Left 4 Dead. For example, in February 2023 many users were frustrated as the service went down ahead of the then-hotly anticipated Sons of the Forest, the survival horror sequel to 2018's The Forest. While it is typically a reliable platform that many gamers use exclusively, Steam has had issues in the past. There appears to be something wrong with Steam today, as indicated by a spike in users who are reporting that they are having problems with the digital storefront.
